I really like this, it's a reflection of how modern society is trying so desperately to affix itself to something as it stumbles lost and confused. As you point out in your article this is an excellent time for "Satan" which is just a spiritual force for evil to attempt to fill the void most of contemporary society feels with "spirit guides" and "soothsayers." As you did and mentioned, having scripture as a foundation and guide is the main antidote to not being caught in the masquerades:
"Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God" - Leviticus 19:31
It's relieving to read that you didn't follow they're advice. Anyway, if you're ever looking for something to read I write about similar content except from a more philosophical angle, rather than a first hand account.
Unfortunately for those lost in these kind of spiritualities they often know what the Bible says about mediums etc and how dangerous it is. Thanks for sharing your writing, I have just subscribed and look forward to reading your philosophical reflections.
While I agree that power that does not come from the Lord is not to be trusted, I also think that we should be careful when quoting the Law of Moses to make sure Christians know that we are not bound by that law (Romans 5, Gal 3, 2 Cor 3:6). Doing so may even be a subversion of the new covenant with Christ (Hebrews 8-10).
It's important to share the stories of us who have gone down many paths in pursuit of truth only to find them meandering and incomplete. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and all paths lead unto him for those who seek the truth and the life. Thanks for writing this!
"I can tell you that nothing compares to a relationship with the true God who made us via his son Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins, so that we could have eternal life. I get it, the story sounds dull and boring, compared to all the other spiritual options out there."
Not boring at all. Each time I dig into the story of Jesus' death and resurrection I find new insights and new opportunities for my faith to grow with the awesome concept of God's love for us. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom here. It's very refreshing.
Kudos to you, Kate, to be open to seeing psychics as channeling demons... they themselves are deceived and think they are doing a good think for people.
I recommend an old book to you. Since you are a writer you will enjoy it's style. It illustrates how crafty the devil can be. It's actually a fun read. It's "the Screw tape Letters" by C.S. Lewis. Small good book to keep us aware of the evil that tries to tempt us in everyday life.
Years ago, during a very vulnerable time in my marriage, my wife did something that was incredibly hurtful. I couldn't imagine why she would think such a thing would actually make things better, but then she told me that "God told her to." I knew immediately that it was not the Lord speaking to her and that I had failed to help her secure herself from false spirits. The devil will speak the words of Scripture, just as he did in tempting Jesus.
On an aside, no one should ever stay in an abusive situation, but you can still seek resolution. You can separate and make it clear you are not seeking divorce, but healing through professional help. This last is crucial; you cannot heal what you are within. Just as a doctor does not operate on themselves.
If the person is willing to seek counseling, therapy, and change their ways, then you have won them back! Just make sure that their repentance is heartfelt. I know all of this because I did it. It is a hard path that requires self-sacrifice, but more than ten years later and our marriage has never been healthier.
So well-written Sister! The Occult is alluring in a false sense, but We Believers know The Truth!

We live by the Spirit, not the Law.
Wow! I'm so glad you found Truth in the Bible. Only Jesus saves!

Yes definitely! It was hearing about the paths of others that finally convinced me that Jesus was the truth.
The devil only comes to kill, steal and destroy…
But Jesus came to give life and that more abundantly.
